Megève is in the department of Haute-Savoie, in region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
Located in the canton of Sallanches in Haute-Savoie, its important tourist boom dates back to the 1910s when the Rothschild family decided to make one of its resorts. It was for them to build a French competitor in the Swiss resort of St. Moritz. The desire was to create a ski resort with the symbol of the art of French living. Megeve has been coveted since its inception, larger crowned heads who had stayed. Today, Megeve is an internationally renowned ski resort.
The town lies at the crossroads between the massive pre-Alpine massif Giffre north, and the Aravis mountains to the west and the Alps Beaufortain southeast. The village is built on a hill that separates the watersheds of Arly southwest of Arbon of the northeast.
